The Middle Ground

The Middle Ground is where your brain separates the morality of eating from the science of eating—and uses both to make food decisions that actually serve you.

It’s the space where you honor both: what you want to eat and what makes your unique body feel its best.

This is what we want for you.

There’s a world where you can eat intuitively and still lose weight. There’s a world where you can use food as a healing agent for chronic issues and still enjoy your damn life—cookies included.

Let’s make that your reality.

Through my time working with Nicki I've seen incredible improvements in both my digestion, physical strength,
and energy.

I came to Nicki after an episode of constant canker sores that at times were debilitating and I didn't know what to do. After our first conversation, Nicki helped to identify that this was a gut issue and immediately recommended I address my acidity issues through better nutrition and supplementation. After just a few days I already started to see a difference and my acidity issues have been 1000% times better!

From a fitness standpoint Nicki has helped me to understand how I can continue to promote my goal of gaining more strength in the gym as well as better recover from training. Her strategies and nutrition plan have helped me to see serious progress at the gym.

Basel R.

Ultimately, working with Michelle has given me a greatly elevated state of health.

Before I met Michelle, I realized I didn’t really know how to eat. There’s so much conflicting information and it’s hard to interpret one thing from another. My body wasn’t responding in terms of health and vitality. I needed someone to help me unravel layer after layer of things that needed to be addressed.

As soon as I met with Michelle, I felt supported. She is the ultimate guru—around nutrition and food, yes. But she’s a big advocate for her patients as individuals too. There were some challenging parts of my journey. But I felt heard. I had this safe environment to say anything and everything she did was totally customized to me. There is no one size fits all. She takes a very caring, centred approach to make sure what she advises is going to gel with you.

Ultimately, working with Michelle has given me a greatly elevated state of health. I have a deep understanding now of how the body works. She also helps me connect to other healthcare providers if it’s ever needed.

There are days where we meet and our conversation isn’t really about food. It’s about the support and understanding. I feel like she’s part of my family. She’s a trusting guide, partner, and a safe space. She’s a true advocate.

This has been the most interesting nutritionist I have worked with to date.

I have learned so much that has helped so far and I can't wait to see how much more I learn by the end of my time with Nicki. I am complex and have a lot of medical issues. The biggest thing I have learned is to focus on my rest and digest first before we get into the food. I am glad she has the knowledge to help me and not give up on me. I am finding happiness and joy for the first time in a long time!

Suzzette W.

I was surprise to gain so much from my time with Nicki.

I have a much more balanced and emotionally healthy relationship with my eating habits. I also learned some useful tips for eating healthy when I don’t have a lot of time or I am traveling. I have a better understanding of how to get enough protein and when I should be eating to optimize my energy and health goals.

Stacy T.

I am so much better at managing stress and listening to my body and being ok with slowing down.

I had been in a place of over treating, kill protocols and chronic fatigue. It was time for me to change the narrative but I wasn't sure how. Sarah really helped me do that with a battle plan that took into consideration every single aspect of slowing down, reducing stress and healing.

I really leaned in to the recommendations and through our sessions was able to find out what best worked for me. I looked forward to our sessions, Sarah was so pleasant and held space in such an empathetic and supportive way.

Sarah M.

I am SO glad I went on this journey with Nicki!

I learned that "health" isn't just about food - it's about habits, self-love, movement, and so much more. I've gained SO much knowledge from this experience not only about food, but also about myself.

Before the program, I was eating high sugar, high carb, low protein, and low fiber; now, I eat less sugar, more protein, AND more fiber - AND I work out three times a week! I truly couldn't have done this without Nicki's support! I would recommend this program to anyone struggling with eating, IBS, or just learning healthy habits.

I grew up in Queens, NY, attending one of the most diverse high schools in the world! And what this translated to was the unique experience of not being judged based only on what I looked like. Everyone looked different and was different and being unique was praised in NYC. From the age of 5-17, I lived in a larger body. I had a beautiful life but I did feel my weight was holding me back. Life was full of energy, friends, and opportunity. I had a big personality, great grades, and an even stronger support system—(I was even voted class clown out of 5,000 students, kind of my biggest achievement.. ever!) But despite all the beauty in my life, I felt like my weight was holding me back in ways I couldn’t always name.

Growing Up

At 17, after being accepted to the University of Delaware—(which I realized even then was a far more homogenous place,) I felt an overwhelming pressure to change how I looked to make a strong impression. My classmates wouldn’t know me for my soul, they would only know me for my weight (I feared.) I went on a radical and unhealthy weight loss journey, losing 100 pounds in less than a year through extreme caloric restriction, a vegan diet and a disordered relationship with eating. At the time, I thought I was achieving something huge, but I had no idea that I was setting myself up for years of health struggles.

The Radical Transformation

College was supposed to be my time to thrive—and on the outside, it looked like I was. I thrived in classes and built lifelong friendships. But behind closed doors, I was constantly scared and overwhelmed. Panic disorder took over my life. I had daily panic attacks so severe that I couldn’t leave my house some days. I felt like I had become a stranger to myself—my usual extroverted, high-energy personality was nowhere to be found. I was trapped, physically and emotionally, and I had no idea where to turn. The panic was isolating, the dizziness never let up, and reflux, IBS, insomnia, and thyroid issues made every day a struggle. My body was screaming for help, but instead, I kept showing up for everyone else instead of myself. I thought weight loss was supposed to fix all of my health problems but weight loss so rapid and harsh actually put my body into a state of panic and toxin overload. I learned that not all weight loss is healthy.

College and Health Struggles

I actually entered college as a marketing major because I loved creativity and communication. But my obsession with nutrition—fueled by my own health chaos—made me switch over to a Dietitics major (a 4 year degree prior to the internship year.) Like many dietitians, I switched paths, searching for the “secrets” of health and healing.

The Shift to Dietetics

I couldn’t wait to return to my city. I completed my dietetic internship though UD in NYC with rotations at Northwell, the NYC Department of Education, and City Harvest. After graduation, I worked in nursing homes, but prescribing Ensure/ Boost to patients (which was borderline a requirement) felt out of integrity for me. The ingredients in what I was told I needed to recommend were the exact ingredients I felt would be making their conditions worsen. I couldn’t stomach being part of a system that felt more corporate than compassionate. It was already within a year of graduating that I started to seek the medical support of a Naturopathic Physician, which set me on the path to functional nutrition.

Coming Home to NYC

I transitioned to corporate wellness, giving nutrition seminars in residential and commercial buildings throughout NYC. In 2017, I actually worked at the electric company in NYC helping employees who needed to lose weight to meet safety standards of the equipment they were using. I began building my private practice on the side, working 12+ hour days. By 2018, I made the leap to full-time private practice.

Corporate Wellness and Private Practice

My early clients were amazingly successful in their respective fields, but no matter how many resources they had, they felt like they were never getting better. These were a group of the most intelligent, generous, loving people and the more they focused on others, the more sick they were. And they all shared one other thing: a sense of betrayal by the healthcare system. Whether they went to the most prestigious doctors or tried functional medicine, they were often left worse off. I knew there had to be a different way—one that didn’t revolve around band-aid solutions or expensive supplements.

Finding My Mission

I found that many of my clients were left hanging in the balance—they couldn’t find support from traditional weight loss dietitians without feeling pushed into disordered habits, and body positivity spaces didn’t always address their health concerns. The nutrition world felt divided, and I wanted to create a space that honored both a healthy relationship with food and the science behind weight loss. I worked with over a thousand clients who felt failed by every healthcare system. At the same time, I was delving deeper into the functional nutrition space, consuming everything I could—books, certifications, and research—to build a practice that combined a body-neutral approach with root cause care for sustainable, personalized weight loss. I became the face of the “middle ground”, the bridge between conventional and functional, and between body positivity and weight loss.

Bridging the Gap

In 2021, everything changed again. I had a handle on my health after years of supporting my body but was then hit with the perfect storm—mold toxicity, MCAS, Long COVID, and a debilitating neck injury that left me with tremors. This was a whole new level of sick for me that I could not ignore. For someone who had always been the one holding everyone else up, being forced to slow down was terrifying. But this period gave me a profound understanding of how chronic illness touches every aspect of life—not just the physical, but the emotional and mental, too. I found strength from deep within myself (that I didn’t know I had) and again, prompted myself into a new phase of intense, constant research so I could learn EVERYTHING about these conditions. I refused to let one ounce of my suffering go to waste. As I healed, I started to feel better than I ever had in my life. I couldn’t believe I could go from my lowest low to my highest high! And I was bursting with a fire to help others I didn’t even know I had before.

Health Crisis in 2021

At the same time In 2021, Nicki (my lead Dietitian and overall favorite person,) joined my team after interning with me. We shared a passion and vision from the start and I really found my partner in crime! I always say, “everyone needs a Nicki!” In 2022, I launched the Quiet the Diet podcast to spread real, honest conversations about nutrition and healing. By 2023, I was traveling the country, speaking on podcasts and connecting with people who shared my mission.

Expanding the Team

In 2023, I launched the Highly Sensitive Body (HSB) Hub—a comprehensive resource for people navigating conditions like MCAS, Long COVID, and POTS. Before this, the only place to find information was scattered forums like Reddit. I wanted to change that, so I gathered 14 of the best colleagues and experts to bring together trusted, actionable guidance in one place. The Hub was designed to provide the clarity, validation, and tools that highly sensitive people need to feel supported and understood.

Hey, I'm Jess.

RD, CDN, CNSC and gut health guru

I help you reconnect with your body as a whole, addressing gut health, hormone balance, autoimmune conditions, and more through integrative functional testing. My goal is to tune into the messages your body sends, so we can transform them from distress signals into a roadmap for healing.

How I can help

For Nina—often called our “gut hormone whisperer”—symptoms aren’t just problems to fix; they’re your body’s way of communicating where it needs support. She dove into the world of functional medicine after realizing how often we silence or overlook these vital clues in traditional approaches. Nina’s genuine curiosity and empathetic nature make her a treasured ally for clients looking to improve their health on a deeper level. By crafting tailored protocols that embrace nutrition, stress management, and even Eastern medicine
insights, Nina ensures that each person she works with feels seen, validated, and hopeful.
